The following options are available:
How can I recruit an apprentice?
The team at Michael John of Liverpool will support you in the recruitment of your apprentice. There are a number of options available:
What is an Apprenticeship Framework?
An apprenticeship framework is a collection of qualifications that is delivered as a package to ensure that your apprentice has the practical skills and understanding to enable them to work effectively in employment.
Included within the Apprenticeship Framework are:
How is the training planned and delivered?
All apprentices undergo diagnostic and skills assessments prior to enrolment on the programme. This informs of the apprentices existing skills, and identifies where additional support and training will be required.
There is a programme of day classes that held at our training centres throughout the year. The content of each class is planned in advance, so it can be identified which classes your apprentice must attend. In most cases, apprentices attend on a weekly basis on an agreed day.
The programme of day classes supports employers in identifying the skills for which your apprentice has received training; and which skills are to be delivered where an apprentice may require practice in the workplace. This will be discussed in detail at each review in the workplace.
Michael John of Liverpool offers assessments in the workplace. These are planned in advance with employers, and enable apprentices to be assessed in their normal workplace situation. This method of assessment has minimal impact on regular workplace activities, but needs careful planning to ensure that the apprentice is carrying out work the work that is required for their NVQ.
What is expected of me as an employer?
Prior to the apprentice starting the programme, a representative will visit you in your premises to discuss the requirements of the apprenticeship with you. They will ensure that you have all the information and guidance that you require, and will be able to answer any questions that you may have.
A risk assessment will be completed to ensure that you are able to provide a safe working environment for the apprentice. This involves checking that you are appropriately insured and that you comply with health and safety legislation. This is also an opportunity for us to provide up to date support and information to you.
You will be required to employ your apprentice, and ensure that there is a contract of employment in place. You will be expected to pay an appropriate wage, which complies with minimum wage legislation. (Currently £95 per week for the first year). As an employee, the apprentice will be entitled to paid holidays.
Apprentices are expected to combine work and training in the workplace, and will need to be provided with the opportunity to practice new skills and techniques. As the apprentice progresses through their training programme, they will become more effective in the workplace.
