Description
A Michael John of Liverpool Advanced Apprenticeship means you will be employed and earning in a salon whilst you are learning. As well as taking qualifications in Hairdressing you will also cover 'key' skills that are essential for a successful career in the Industry.
Your training programme will be planned to suit your individual needs and structured to enable you to attend a Michael John training centre for one day per week and your salon of employment four days per week. (Or those days agreed within your contract of employment - minimum 30 hr week)
As you progress you will develop the skills & knowledge required to become a competent, fully qualified and successful advanced stylist. On course completion you will also have built an impressive portfolio demonstrating your skill in the following areas:
- Health and safety
- Improving client services
- Communicating with clients and colleagues
- Advanced fashion hair cutting, drying and styling
- Using numbers to support salon activities
- Fashion colouring and perming hair techniques
- Product and service promotion
- Teamwork and personal effectiveness
- Creative hairstyling techniques
- Teamwork and personal effectiveness
How Will I Be Assessed?
In college you will receive half a day practical training and half a day theory training.
In your practical class you will be observed doing practical tasks for each unit you are doing and will also do two theory tests on each unit you complete.
Your assessment will be against National Standards leading towards a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ).
Each learner will be given an individual learning plan which will be reviewed on a 6 weekly basis throughout training. Reviews will be carried out alternately within your training centre or salon placement.
12 weekly visits to your salon will happen to assess how you are being treated, coping with your work and are enjoying the programme.
Is There Anything Else I Need To Know?
To support your learning Michael John of Liverpool has fully equipped learning suites which offer computer access; learner libraries; specialist literacy and numeracy delivery and much more.
All the products and materials you will need are provided within our training centres FREE OF CHARGE.
You will also have had the opportunity to participate in our Annual Hair & Beauty Competition and/or attend North West Hair & Beauty Exhibitions.
Payment: you will are employed by the salon and will receive a weekly wage of no less than £80 per week. Michael John of Liverpool can provide you with an Arriva bus pass at a cost of £10 per week.

HABIA Advanced Apprenticeship FRAMEWORK Completion Certificate
You will now be fully qualified in hairdressing and can usually stay on working as a qualified stylist in your salon. You could apply to a salon of your choice. You are now able to apply to cruise ships and airlines.
