Alternative Vocational Curriculum
Michael John Academy offer work-related Alternative Vocational Curriculum (AVC) programmes for schools and their pupils that are both popular and successful.
The programme offered depends on school choice and the individual assessment of the pupil. There are two distinct programmes offering a range of vocational choices:
NVQ Level One programmes in Hairdressing, Barbering, Beauty Therapy or Nail Services
NVQ Level Two programmes in Hairdressing, Barbering, Beauty Therapy or Nail Services
Successful achievement of a full NVQ depends on the time given to pupils to attend their programmes and their own efforts to progress and achieve.
Training programmes are planned to suit individual needs and attendance patterns. Planned pupil attendance varies, with some attending one day per week and others attending multiple days (up to five days per week).
As pupils progress they will develop the skills & knowledge required the industry and build an impressive portfolio demonstrating their competence in some or all of the following areas:
NVQ Level 2 programmes are offered to pupils who demonstrate that they are ready to work at this level at initial assessment; and that an NVQ level one programme would not be demanding enough. Pupils undertake training and assessment in Level 2 Units, but unless sufficient time away from school is allocated it is unlikely that a full qualification can be achieved. Pupils build up units of achievement which can contribute to the completion of a full qualification on leaving school. (Shortening the duration of an Intermediate Apprenticeship programme).
Michael John Academy has fully equipped salons, learning suites which offer computer access, learner libraries, specialist literacy and numeracy delivery and much more.
All products and materials a pupil will need are provided within our training centres FREE OF CHARGE.
When a pupil successfully completes their Individual Learning Plan they may have achieved accreditation in:- (Depending on attendance and duration)
City & Guilds NVQ Level 1 Certificate in their chosen route
City & Guilds Record of Achievement listing all units achieved
Michael John Academy Certificates - accrediting individual strengths in aspects of personal effectiveness
City & Guilds Functional Skills Certificates in English and / or Maths (If supported by school)
On successful completion of the programme, learners may progress onto a further Foundation Learning programme (full time) or an Intermediate Apprenticeship.
Any school or pupil interested in taking up an Alternative Vocational Curriculum programme should contact Katie at our Head Office on 0151 708 8558. Please note that the School must agree the pupil’s place and timetable before commencement of the programme.
