Foundation Learning is a personalised programme which is planned to offer you the qualifications and support that you need to progress.
Michael John Academy offer Foundation Learning programmes in the vocational areas of:
Learning includes practical work in a real salon environment and in the classroom to ensure you broaden your knowledge of the sector and its demands.
It is likely you will also be given support to progress your Functional Skills in Maths and /or English. You will learn how important it is to be able to apply Maths and English within a workplace and how these skills will really help you to progress further.
You will be offered personal development or employability qualifications to support you in areas that would help you to progress to your chosen destination more rapidly. You will also learn the importance of regular attendance and a positive attitude towards future employment.
In addition to all of the above Foundation Learning will support your employability skills and help you to understand what an employer is looking for in a future apprentice. Learning will include practical work in a realistic salon environment and classroom teaching to ensure you broaden your knowledge of the hair and beauty sector and its demands.
There are no entry requirements for Foundation Learning and all programmes are personalised to support your needs.
Michael John Academy deliver Foundation Learning qualifications ranging from Entry 2 or 3 to Level 1.
Although there are no formal requirements you will be expected to attend regularly, dress appropriately and generally help us to support you to progress.
Because Foundation Learning is a personalised programme it is difficult to say specifically how you will be assessed.
There are a range of assessment methods that may be used depending on your qualification(s) route.

Foundation Learning programmes are government funded and therefore training will not cost you any money.
If your programme is of an appropriate duration you may get the opportunity to attend North West Hair and Beauty Exhibitions or participate within our annual Hair & Beauty Competition.
Michael John Academy will provide all the equipment, products and materials you will need to undertake your Foundation Learning programme.
You will attend training for a minimum of sixteen hours per week, which is generally three days from 9.30 to 4.00pm.

Michael John Academy, along with your Connexions advisor, can offer you help and advice on your progression route. If you wish to take up an Apprenticeship we will arrange interviews with local employers.
