About Us

Michael John Academy (formerly Michael John of Liverpool) has been a recognised training school since 1981

Our excellent training gives our learners the best possible start in their career as a hairdresser, barber, beauty therapist or nail technician.  Many learners go on to run their own businesses as successful salon owners.

Michael John Academy offer a range of courses, from entry level to level 3. We are committed to ensuring that we assess your current skills, support needs, circumstances and academic level in order to offer you the best programme to suit your needs.  

We have always taken a hands-on approach and enjoy direct contact in the training of our learners. If you enrol on an apprenticeship programme you will be working in a commercial salon for four days of the week to get actual experience and regular clients, and will be trained in one of our custom built training centres.

We recruit learners for:

Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy alternative curriculum for school pupils aged 14 -16 years old

Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy, Barbering and Nail Services  Foundation Learning programmes, for learners aged 16 – 18 years old

Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy, Barbering and Nail Services Apprenticeships and Advanced Apprenticeships for learners aged 16 and over. 

Competition

Michael John Academy hosts an annual Hair & Beauty Competition, which all learners are encouraged to enter. Learners have the opportunity to demonstrate there dynamic new skills & talents. The show is attended by learners, employers, family and salon professionals.

Michael John Academy is the only training provider in Merseyside who has won UK hairdressing student of the year.

Teaching Staff

All our teaching staff are fully qualified within the hair, beauty, barbering and nails industry; and hold all relevant teaching & assessing qualifications. Our highly qualified basic & key skills tutors have fully embedded key skills into the relevant vocational areas. We have mentors in place for individual advice & guidance, e.g. child protection, ASN support, health & safety officers etc.
